The Municipalitiy of Draz can definitely boast with its inviolate and unpolluted nature, which is an ideal starting point for eco-tourism. Underdevelopment of Baranja as the province has its drawbacks but in this case it is an advantage because natural resources are completely preserved. Environment settlements located in the Municipality of Draz is a natural, clean and unpolluted, considering that in the near and the further surroundings there are no industrial complexes, and therefore it allows habitat for numerous plant and animal species. This is primarily related to forest areas such as Sarkanj, Vrblje, Mackaluk, Siga and others and also to Topoljski dunavac and Stari Dunav near Batina. This is the natural habitat and hatchery of a large number fish species, an ideal habitat for wild animals and birds (285 species) and there are also numerous molluscs, amphibians and reptiles and many annelids, arthropods, worms and insects. This natural wealth is a holiday for the eyes, soul and body, what exactly the man of today is looking for, tired of hectic, tense, stress and uncertainty of everyday life. Today's best-selling product is free time and therefore there is a need to attract guests to spend it here in the magic and beauty of untouched nature, because it is the source to recharge exhausted body and soul. Surely the most important segment of ecotourism is education because that way we want to present the beauty of the flora and fauna of the Municipality of Draž with all its characteristics to primary and secondary school children and students.

In this environment have been created ideal conditions for the life of the multitude of animal, bird and fish species. This richness is the rest for the eyes and spirit, what in this busy life can have an important relaxing role and enable good and much needed rest.

The Municipality of Draz is certainly by all measures rich with fishing waters of which we should mention and highlight its untouched nature. Fishing waters of the Municipality of Draz are the following: Topoljski dunavac in an area of 280 ha, Stari Dunav near Batina in the area of 50 ha, rukavci Sarkanj and Vrblje in an area of 70 ha, rukavac "Niagara" in an area of 20 hectares, the lake "Bucka" which extends between the villages Draz and Gajic with an area of 4 hectares and live stream of the river Danube near Batina. These fishing waters make the Municipality of Draz one of the most valued fishing destinations not only in Croatia but also in Europe. Of the 44 fishing species living here the most interesting are: catfish (Silurus glanis), the original Danube carp dragonflies (Cyprinus carpio hungaricus), pike (Esox lucius) and perch (Stizostedion lucioperca).

All of these fish inhabit our waters and grow to trophy sizes since there are natural conditions for spawning and uncontaminated water and coastline.

In addition to these main fish species popular is also “white” fish that makes fishing interesting. The pleasure is complete and unforgettable if you ad wonderful forest atmosphere, flyover wild ducks and geese, deer roar or undulation of cod in the fresh breeze, etc.

The most famous hunting ground in the Municipality of Draz is the open state hunting ground "Sarkanj-Vrblje" in Draz. After the peaceful reintegration hunting craft "Troga" manages with this hunting ground. Forests and fields that surround the Municipality of Draz are rich in diverse wildlife. Of the 20 species of wild animals that live here the most important are primarily deer (Cervus elaphus) for which it is important to emphasize that in the above mentioned hunting grounds was shot a deer with top antlers (highest European rating), roe (Capreolus capreolus) and wild boar (Sus scscrofa ) as the major types. Moreover here you can find the numerous population of pheasants, wild ducks, geese, quail, rabbits, etc. If someone has a special affinity, he can go to interesting, and with the point of view of the spread of infectious diseases often necessary, fox hunting. Those who love hunting will find a reason to come to the hunting grounds in the area of Draz throughout the year.

Almost all the settlements in the Municipality of Draz are in close contact with the mountain Banska kosa. Banska kosa is a mountain that stretches through the middle of Baranja from east to west and is known as a rich vineyard region which thrives valued and celebrated lineage. The best known and most highly regarded wines are: Riesling, Grasevina, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris and Noir, Sauvignon and others. From the area of our Municipality comes respected and widely known winemaker and winegrower Mr. Gerstmajer whose work contributes to the quality and the promotion of our tourism product. Besides him there are still many winegrowers who in their original cellars in the traditional way diligently produce gold fragrant intoxicating drops from the rich Baranja mountain Banska kosa. Except grapes there grow more diverse and old varieties of fruit, which is bonus to the tourist table.

Tourists find interesting wine roads with old cellars and "Gators" which are plenty in the Municipality of Draz.

AGROTOURISM - Tourism in the Countryside

Agrotourism meets the expectations of younger and older people, through all seasons with the renowned hospitality and a full table of delicious dishes of authentic, local cuisine. In the Municipality of Draz there are many opportunities and great interest in this form of continental tourism because many yards can be practically organized for this purpose. That way the customer gets domestic product directly, eg. cured meat products, fruit, brandy, etc., all of which should be designed in an interesting and appealing way.

In the villages people are preparing many traditional specialties, most notably: sausages, kulen, fish stew, cobanac, zavezanci, trganci, gibanica and many others. All of this is presented on occasional events that highlight the richness of “sokacka” gastronomy (eg. Baranjski Becarac).

On the first place to point out of the cultural heritage should be the parish church of St. Peter and Paul in Topolje from the 1722. The church was built in the glory and honor of the triumphant move of Prince Eugene Francis of Savoy over the Turks, especially after the famous battle of Senta 11th September 1697 (Dr. K. Firinger, 1956).

It is also widely known monument of the Battle of Batina that was built by A. Augustincic in 1946. The monument is a reminder of the Battle of Batina, which took place from 11th November 1944 – 30th November 1944. Russian 3rd Ukrainian front moved from Serbia to the Hungarian border. Near Batina they have confronted with exceptional resistance of the German army and while crossing the Danube 1701 Russian soldier was killed. In the gallery of Memorial Home of Batina Battle - every day you can sail into the history of that era.

Also interesting is the tomb from the Roman period - ad militares (to the soldier), which is located on Banska kosa near Batina. During the Roman rule in Pannonia, on Bansko brdo - then Mons aureus (golden hill) near Batina, were stationed Roman legions, because there was limes, and from this period dates this tomb. The tomb is still insufficiently researched and is not marked and to that fact should be given greater attention in the future.

Apart from all these cultural characteristics of the tourism product of the Municipality of Draz we would like to highlight the Baranja art colony which traditionally takes place every year in September at the Zeleni otok near Batina and folklore manifestation Baranjski becarac attended by prominent folk organizations of Slavonia and Baranja. A significant contribution to this folk festival provide original sokacko cultural and artistic organizations that operate in the area of Draz namely: KUD "Sloga" from Draz, KUD "Mladi Šokci" from Dubosevica and KUD "Baranjac" from Topolje. This area is also widely known for its ancient traditions: VINCESKA (custom of blessing of grapes and beginning of the wine-growing year) every 22nd January in the year, then BUSE (Carnival) in late February, PUDARINA (custom of keeping grape ripening).

The project is co-financed by the European union from the European regional development Fund. The contents of this site are the sole responsibility of the Municipality Draz.
